PowerBook G4, 12 inch. Think that really might be the issue?

I could also be a bad battery and power supply, if m power supply even slightly comes out it shuts off. it really sucks. I totally feel your pain

but it really sounds like a heat issue, is your machine on a flat hard surface? even a tablecloth can cause it to overheat.

    btw

if your heat levels are fine
(I like this one for you PC users)

If youre heat levels are fine, you might check your RAM and HDD.

From your problem description I'd diag heat first, then HDD, then RAM.

I have that exact same issue, the battery is shot and doesn't hold a charge at all, been like that for the better part of a year now.

    Hey mate.

when you plug your power supply in are you using a 3 pin prong with ground or the 2 pin?

If you are using 2 pin, this could be the cause of the issue as there is no ground and can cause the laptop to just turnoff or freeze up with no apparent reason.

I was having this problem myself then i switched to the 3 prong plug, and haven't had any problems since.

I'm using the three pronged one and still have this issue, but at home I'm only using the two pronged one.

If it is a temp-problem, try using a laptop stand, that may help already in solving it; getting air below the lappy should help a bit. Otherwise I really would go with a surge-protector. Had a very bad power-spike here last week coming through the power grid- suddenly all my equipment had gremlins (=acting up). Looked at a powermeter I use, frequencies went up to 60hz (normal is 50) and stuff. Really weird. So much for the german power-grid :-/
I mix stuff on my things...

Ok, so I installed the Widget so I can monitor my temp, hard drive, fans and so on.

Should my fans really be at 0 rpms?
