The Mu template has a LED under each fader that will represent the volume, this can be easily replaced with another object to represent a VU meter in a more detailed way. Unlike Touchable, Lemur allows you to edit the template and keep on adding pages of new stuff to your hearts content so you could just build on the Mu template or take the module and import it to a new template (just remember to load the Mu plugin in live to make the connection with the API for proper feedback). There is an update in the pipes for this this template so you just might wait for a bit and check if it is part of the changelog.

The scripting and physics engines make all the difference and justify the price IMO. Physics, when used right, will allow you to soften the movements of your controls and make the results sound much more natural than a fader/knobs that just jumps between values. On top of that, there is the whole modulation business you can easily achieve with it.

If you only need basic knob/fader/button mappings and couldn't care less about the advanced stuff then yes, it's a waste of money.
