Optimizing Windows for Djing – Part I (Power Script)

What it’s going to be? Mac or PC? One is the toast of the creative industry with each unit being hand delicately hand crafted on a silk pillow by a choir of angels. The other is a clunking black hole sucking the cool out of the universe and replacing it with narcoleptic accountants and device driver errors. At least that is what we are led to believe. If you happen to fall into the latter camp you might grudgingly admin to having a PC stashed under the desk for mundane office work but you certainly wouldn’t consider taking it to a club? Would you?

wow, it only needed 3 posts to get into mac vs. windows again... People, let everybody decide for themselves. I love my windows laptop and another person loves their apple. Who the f&%$# cares. In the end it's both evil big corporations getting their money of it...

I was jus trollin. Fuck it. Use what you want, and do it big.

I wouldn't know how any of this DJ shit works with PC anyway since I was fortunate enough to acquire a MacBook (At the expense of my $3,000 custom laptop) right around the same time I started DJing. Well I started DJing and fell upon turntables (Vestax) searching for a Mac on the Mac store.

    ^.^

One funny thing i noticed watching the movie. The guy is using an i7, 8 gb ram laptop. Why the hell do you need to run any scripts on it?
Sure, windows is using some resources (perhaps more than it should, but it's an OS in the end) but will the kick ass specs not compensate for that?

Ya running that spec a script may not really be necessary, but certainly wouldn't hurt. I think for machines such as mine tho (Win 7 64bit, 4gb ram) and below, a tool like this will be very handy. I will tweak this tomorrow and let yall know how it works in my setup. For example in the txt file they have avast antivirus whereas i use comodo so there's a change right there .

they should. I seriously have no problems with my laptop It's a Lenovo Y550p, corei7, 4gb ram, and I added a 64 GB SSD which is too fucking small because it was all I could afford at the time and I wasn't DJing. I really need to reformat my external HDD so it works properly and I can actually organize my files.

But I digress. I have run ableton, traktor, like 50 tabs in firefox, itunes, all at the same time (granted only really using traktor), plus a whole host of background tasks like Norton Anti-virus (which is constantly running because it is getting these stupid false positives in my temp folder which apparently there is not hotfix for), wifi, bluetooth, azerus VUZE, and probably some viruses since I look at so much porn (while I'm DJing, of course).

I had no problems with my S4 (except initially, but I think that was a driver issue - dropouts etc...) However I do mix externally on my x1600 so that might help out a bit now. I dunno. I just think people have bad luck. I'd love a mac but the mac equivalent of my notebook is like 3grand and besides the battery life and industrial design I can't figure out what exactly that 3 grand would get me that would make it worth paying such an outrageous sum. I suppose the smug attitude I could have owning a mac, but I owned one of those colored box imacs and it sucked so I don't have those feelings towards the mac brand. Do love my iphone though.

just to add fuel to the fire, I have a Dell XPS i7 and i can run 64bit osx 10.6.6 on it fine .. although i prefer W7x64.

Apple is all about selling apple branded hardware, the same stuff can be found in other laptops for hald the price.

If you love the OSX software so much, try running it on a PC ..... everyone's happy then ..
