You should read up on them. Blew my mind...

Are you familiar with MS Excel's IF function? It's similar to that. Basically, Smart Playlists are queries of your entire iTunes database, returning ONLY those tracks in your database that meet a condition or set of conditions. They are dynamic - so whenever you add a track to the iTunes library, every Smart Playlist will be updated if that track meets the conditions in the Smart Playlist.

Like I said, it blew my mind when I started to read up on it.

No, I understand what they DO, I just don't understand the point of them.

Am I the only one who just sticks all of his tracks in genre-specific playlists then works his way through that selection in a semi-random order according to mood of the room?

    I doubt it.

But if you have a specific idea for a mix (NOT necessarily when you're playing out), it helps to be able to interogate your library, rather than just browse it...

It's the difference between playing music for a bunch of people, and having an idea for a (perhaps themed) mix.

You p[robably won't see the benefit unless you're a little OCD...

If Traktor had native Smart playlists you wouldn't have needed to START this thread!

is anyone programming key matching smartlists in these programs ???:

    Mixvibes Cross
    Virtual DJ
    Deckadance 2
    Serato
    Djay

    ?

you would still have to manually program all the different variables for each key. 4 for each 12 keys.
