Why do DJ's constantly play with EQ?

Im trying to get into djing and i have this weird habit of just constantly messing with the eq when mixing, im trying to make it smoother but most of the time it throws me off the 'flow' and sounds crap.

But why when i'm out do i see dj's constantly touch the eq? What exactly are they doing?

Usually mixing in the next track or tweaking the current track/tracks a bit. It really depends on what is being done up there. Alot of times DJ's just want to look like there doing something when a tracks playing instead of just standing up there waving there arms. Again, depends on what is being done up there...
