Default S4 in 'external' mode using timecode CDJs. Using S4 as decks C&D.

    Hi,

I've seen the hack for using the S4 in external mode. I was wondering about how I could utilise this in a standard CDJ + mixer setup.

What I was looking at was using CDJs and external mixer using TSP2. I would use an external audio 8. Say I would use channels 1 & 2 on the mixer and this would use decks A&B in Traktor. But, I would set the S4 into external mode and route both C&D channels to a single channel on the external sound card and then use channel 3 on the mixer. Therefore I could sync C&D to A&B and use the S4 for builds/fx/loops/vocals/etc.

I guess I can still use the FX and loops for all A,B,C,D decks?

    Will this work?

Are you going to use the Audio 8 or not?

Yes. Maybe I should explain myself a little further. In a typical club setup, I dont want to be removing CDJs and moving mixers and plugging everything into the S4 etc. I still want to use the CDJs in timecode mode, not in live input mode. I just want to put the S4 to one side and use it for loops. Typically I would use CDJs when playing out.

There's no need for special hacks or routing then. Just set up as usual with the Audio 8, then plug the S4 in through USB only.

Where would the sound route to from the S4 if im not plugging it in anywhere?

So I will be using channels 1&2 on the lets say Pioneer mixer for the CDJs. The S4 will need an output somewhere, surely? Or would I just plug that straight into line 3 on the Pioneer?

Sorry to sound thick. I cant get my head around this one. I dont have CDJs at home to test this setup on. I do have some crappy Denon inline things from the Jurassic age. Ill see if I can get them working on timecode. Youtube says yes.

The Audio 8 outputs all your audio for 4 decks. S4 acts as a MIDI controller only.

You could use the PMs here if you like? Or keep the thread going.
