Start from the djm manual to learn the unit. There is the utility software where you can configure some things to optimize your mixer for computer usage. The utility also helps to get you notified about new firmware updates.

What do you use your one X1 buttons for?

If he's planning on adding an external audio to the setup than Yes.

    True, my bad.

If you use a laptop, can't you hook up everything through USB?

Wow I'm really jealous of you right now :P I think I can figure out a way...
We're talking about 2 cdj2000nxs right? even if we're not just plug them into your computer with USB (not sure if you need a driver or not but Traktor has a mapping for it)
The DJM is the more tricky bit and I think you'll have to get a 4 channel soundcard so you can split outputs, the NI Audio 10 will be perfect but if you're tight on budget I bet you can find something with 4 outputs in a cheaper price. You'll have to connect each output from the soundcard to the input in the channels of the mixer and setup the outputs correctly in Traktor.
The F1's and X1 is an obvious one isn't it? The last bit would be to configure your Maschine and send it to one of the outputs of the soundcard (I think it would be good if it had its own channel). Also you should create a MIDI sync between Maschine and Traktor so it will be easy to keep in time.
I hope you found this useful and good luck!

You don't need any external sound cards since the 900 is certified! Traktor will recognize the inputs and outputs.

I thought so too, but I didn't see the USB port in pictures of it so I went the safe way
