Hello,

I've been researching 4 channel controllers (esp. ones that can function as stand-alone mixers) and need some advice on what they are capable of...

Specifically, I want to know if it's possible to run a live instrument through one of the channels (let's say an amped guitar with 1/4" jack). Would that input just take over one of the channels, leaving the rest to run through a music library? Would any of the software (Serato, Traktor, etc.) recognize that input? Could I then use either the controller (independently of software, or in conjunction with) to create & layer loops from that input? Would the controller's effects be applicable to the sound coming from the instrument?

I have been looking at controllers such as the Numark 4Trak and the VCI-400 because of their number & variety of inputs, and that they function as stand-alone mixers, but am wondering if these are the right tools for the job...

Any info/insights greatly appreciated!

thanks,

Lestitian
