Default Does this effect (traktor or hardware) exist?

Sometimes I want to bring in tops of a new track but it doesn't quite fit right. I was thinking a handy effect tool would be a filter or amp control with variable sync control or user step lfo style.

Idea would be where if I just wanted to bring in the new track (let's say top only- mid/bass cut) for 1/16 or 1/8 note lengths on beats 1.3, 2.1, .. or whatever - then be able to adjust on fly to bring in more hits, or adjust wet/dry etc.

Problem with just a normal lfo sync'd effect is that usually the on/off phase is equal - meaning you couldn't bring in short cuts spread apart over longer beat intervals. I suppose it may be possible to achieve something like this using 2 sync effects in series, set to square waves at different sync rates - but that might be kind of hard to control.

This is what you use EQ and up-faders/line-faders on a mixer for...

I guess.... except for top end especially it's gonna get pretty sloppy trying to manually cut out or carve in a new groove with the eq knob.

You don't use the EQ to do the on/off.

You set your eq's first (so that you're only left with the highs), then you use the up-fader to cut-in the parts you want, in any rythym that takes your fancy.

Us old timers have been doing this forever. It's actually a lot of fun to do, and (sometimes) actually sounds REALLY good.

Yes that would work, best I suppose to set a sharp curve on up-fader or just use crossfader. Thanks.

Though I'd still be interested if an effect like this exists - as trying to cut in a rhythmic pattern of 174 BPM 16th notes would be sloppy for me for sure.

There are VST's that allow you to do this. Most Gate type FX have a programmable pattern.

Only good in a DAW, though...

Yea def.. I have multiple vst's that can do this. It would be a dream to be able to have traktor host vst effects. I'm not about routing traktor thru a DAW on my laptop - too much to go wrong imo, I know some people do this with Live.

I have an ipad and apps that could handle this likely, but I think latency and audio problems using Ipad as external fx loop would be problematic. The ipad already in use anyway as remix deck controller, which works well.

    It's a crying shame that Traktor can't host VST's.

Doesn't help if you want to stick with Traktor, but I believe that Gross Beat FX in Deckadance 2 could achieve this (at least to some degree)

Not 100% sure, since I haven't tried it, but at least stand-alone VST can do gating (and much more)
