Its been nearly 6 months but I have made a decision and taken the plunge.

I have managed to buy a Denon DN-X1700 for less than a B-stock DN-X1600. It is less than 6 months old and as new. Just got to wait till the damn thing arrives now.

Will let you know how I get on. Thanks for all your input on this.

if you can score a x1600 then go for it definitely (look at my sig). better features than a pio 900 nexus for half the price (what idiot would put a usb port on the top of a mixer for a start)

I really wish I knew about this mixer before I purchased an S4.

Well its arrived and first impressions are very very good.
The faders (line and cross) are super smooth and the eqs sound lovely. It works straight out the box with Traktor Scratch and was fairly straight forward to set up, once I had deciphered the utility menu on the mixer.
It's definitely a very good investment. There are loads of really cool little features like the loop in the twin FX engines and takeover to eq once switching back from midi.

Anyone thinking about a new mixer should seriously consider this or the DN X-1600.

I think that I am going to sell my S4 and buy x-1600.

This is the first time I have had a Denon mixer and I would highly recommend it. I have owned Gemini, Vestax, NI, Pioneer and now Denon. The Denon just feels nice to use (I can't quantify it I'm afraid), I thought my Pioneer was good but this feels better from initial use. Time will tell!!
