new to djing having trouble setting up effects with mixtrack

Hi im relatively new to djing i just bought my first controller today its the original numark mixtrack, what im having trouble with is using effects with traktor 2, for instance i have the "filter effect" selected, i press the effect button on the mixtrack hardware and the light goes on, but nothing happens when i turn the dials to change frequencies ect either on hardware or mouse. can anyone sugggest anything?

Did you enable FX unit buttons in the mixer section?
