Default DVS expansion for Serato DJ

So I'm considering getting the DDJ-SX2 because my DDJ-SX doesn't support DVS for my Technics 1200s. Before I make the purchase I want to know whether I am going to need to purchase the $99 DVS expansion from Serato if I already have a Rane SL2. Is this actually the case? Or is the DVS expansion only for people who don't have an SL2 (or 3 or 4)?

Can't you use the SL2 along with the SX for DVS?

I was told that this is not possible.

Anyone able to advise on this?

Make sure you KNOW it's not possible and why. People can be wrong and they can and will lie to you.

Sure, if you have two laptops.
You can use the SX w' SeratoDJ or the SL2 with SeratoDJ, but not at
the same time from the same computer. You could hook up the SL2 to the SX's
mixer section, and use it's surface for MIDI, however. Personally, I would just
sell your SX, and upgrade to the SX2.

You could sell your SX for $700 easy.
    You can pre-order an SX2 for $800.
You buy the DVS Plugin for $100.
So you lose out on a couple hundred bucks. Oh well, such is the case in this day and age.

Serato have already stated several times that the Rane soundcards will never act as a dongle
for controllers to support DVS. You want DVS? You buy a new controller that supports it.
Serato are a cash cow....you think they care whether you already have an SL2? They don't.
It's not surprising though. NI are the same way. If you want Traktor Scratch DVS on a controller,
you have to buy the S4. It's just the way it is.

can't you connect it the standard way, TT's to SL2 phono inputs, SL2 outputs to SX line inputs an use it as a standalone mixer? then USB from SX to mac/pc to use midi?

So SL2 and SX can't be plugged into the same laptop/mac running Serato DJ? Why?
I do know that Serato DJ licence for SL boxes can't be used to dj' JUST with SX or any other controller but this puzzles me...
