    Default Worries about party music

    Hello everyone.

So I am an amateur dj (I mean I'm not pro but I can call myself a dj) and I was invited to play at a birthday party. I just wanted to ask you what music should I play. I am 17 and a girl is doing her birthday party so the rest of the people are at the same age with me. Everyone is listening to mainstream music, house, rnb etc. but at the previous parties I played they didnt enjoy house and electro. So what genre would you play in this occasion?

Maybe they like black music, trap etc.

Get a lot of music of different genres and test them there, people will react positively to the genre they prefer.

Make sure you have enough music of each genre to play that the whole time you are planning to play.

Or you are a bad house/electro selector lol, then you have to discover that by yourself and improve it.

I would hit em with some One Direction if you really want to to be a rock star

Maybe some Katy Perry, Dimi Lovato, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj I'm just guessing though.

Start with some well known track (or even leave a headphone jack so people play their music whilst they are sober) and then around half way through the night hit them with tech house/trap

    Vestax VCI-400 or Pioneer DDJ-SX2?

Let me say welcome to the forum...

If the crowd you are playing for is the high school/college crowd... the most music exposure most of them are going to get is radio, top 40 and indie bands. So play tunes that are popular on the radio, if its a band try to find a house remix of a track.

The common listener connects to music via the vocals, so it is best to stick to tracks with vocals in them. Because it can get a little repetitive especially if you're blasting electro house. Play all kinds of genres. Hip Hop always gets em going though.

I played a 5 hour set on Friday at my residency. Alot of house headz but we also get some overflow from the big top 40 club across the street. I played this track and the place WENT NUTS! I wanted to share it with you, play it at the party i guarantee things will get bent...

If you want to find more tracks like it. we used to call this "Jackin house", but now i guess its called "Future Bass"

My audience is generally uninformed when it comes to EDM, but I still get them to dance to trap, breaks, oldschool and the occasional bit of Electronica (Myrryrs for instance). Oldschool works almost for any age, as long as there is a nice groove to it.

    Thank you all.

Plus 031999 when Im playing music I mostly play Future House. I play some songs of this genre to parties because the drops are more able to be danced instead of progressive drops.

Future House seems really to be the future. At least I hope so.
