Woah good to see this thread on the first page after a hiatus from DJTT for a long while. Big ups to the JPrime for keeping it going.
Been spending alot of time traveling playing breaks, producing breaks, and as you all can see, there's about 10,000 new breaks artists since then. Haha.

Yeah what can I say, it's moving alot faster than I thought it would, seen some pretty intersting sounds coming out.
When the smoke clears, we'll just see who is still left standing. lol

There was a thread on NSB a couple of years ago entitled, "So... breakbeat still doesn't contain any breakbeats then?"

    Made me giggle!

NSB Radio still seems to be going, for any heads on this forum..

Edit: may as well stick this in here too. Just re-discovered it on an old Lee Coombs podcast...

    Default Breaks are back

I'm new to this site. At least a new member. I've lurked for a while.

I have a theory on why Breaks has never been the favorite of all the EDM sub-genres. It has to be because sync doesn't play nice with 1/8 and 1/16 beats, therefore, break records are ignored.

I'm halfway kidding. But still, breaks tracks are closer to rhythm and blues than any other genre. Maybe DnB. And I noticed this thread started years ago with some reference to Stanton Warriors. Break gods, I think we agree. This is just one example of one they had their hands on. What's poignant about it is the history of the sample, including who that is. Nina Simone, a blues legend. And she was telling a story in 1961 when she first belted those lyrics. Then, ~40 years later, the Warriors remix for Layo & Bushwacka! in the only way I bet Simone would approve; with soul. With down beats scattered around, rather than some strict 4/4 rule.

Whatever the reason, sadly, appreciating breaks is a lonely business!

    Default Still back

I got exited when I saw this thread but then I saw it started in 2014.
But seems like in 2024 there are still breaks being appreciated and played.
I included some of my favorite breaks in my last 3 mixes on Mixcloud.
