Default Mic inputs on computer for recording

looking at making my own podcasts, using a dj controller (HerculesRmx) and a microphone plugged in either via the mic port or a xlr to usb plugged into the usb port on my computer, was wondering if i set deck c for live input will traktor pick my mic up using either of these connections? What would be better a 3.5mm connecter or usb or doesn't it matter?

    Many thanks Macco

A USB microphone will likely have the best overall quality. Something like this (there are other options) would be a good starting point.

I have made podcasts with a Shure SM58 with a cable plugged into the 2.5mm port. Not the ideal solution but it did sound fine..
    Denon DJ/MC6000KMK2/Launchpad S/LaunchcontrolXL/Traktor Pro 2/Bringin it since 96.
