I've been trying to update the firmware on my VCI-100, and I can't seem to get the VCI into boot mode.
I've seated the firmware update module firmly into the correct slot, and removed the wire as shown, and connected two different serial cables into the onboard serial ports of two different computers, but whenever I switch the VCI on ready to flash it, all of the lights come on as normal, and when I touch the platter it turns red- so meaning that the VCI hasn't gone into the boot mode necessary to program the flash.
I emailed service at djtechtools.com on monday but haven't heard anything back yet- I'd really like to get this sorted as soon as possible!

Well for the last hour been trying to get my pc to recognise the USB device but each time i plug in the USB it fails and is followed with an error basically it's not installing the midi software, and the firmware software tool can't see the COM1, so it looks like I will have to pick up a serial to serial cable and try this instead :/

hhmmm i dont know much about window pc's but isnt COM1 only used for a serial port ? i did read on here somewhere that if you are using a USB to serial then you should use a port number of above COM3

Would a monitor cable (DB9 male-to-male) with a null-modem adapter (such as the one pictured) on each end work for the firmware upgrade? Thanks in advance!

Hum, but in one of thepoints Ean mantions is:
    • You must use a standard serial cable- not a null modem cable
So how is it, should it be a null modem cable or a standard one?!
