Default Audio 6 randomly disconnects, please help!

    Hi guys,

I've recently upgraded my setup and decided to take the plunge and buy traktor scratch for my CDJ 1000's. Hooked it all up and works a dream except for one annoying problem.

Every now and again, say once an hour or so, the audio 6 just completely disconnects and the music stops. To fix this i have to unplug the usb from my laptop, quit traktor and then reboot traktor and plug the audio 6 back in.

I have a 2014 retina MBP running yosemite and traktor 2.8.1.1104 and the latest firmware for the audio 6 from the service centre. I've tried using both usb ports on my laptop (I read that sometimes the audio 6 doesnt like internal usb hub setup) and I've tried running the soundcard off DC power and USB power. None of this has worked and it still randomly disconnects on me. I'm at the end of my tether and can't think what could be causing the issue. Any ideas guys?

    thanks,
    mcc9

Could just be shitty RCA cords. Have you tried switching just those to see if it's that?

I've tried another USB lead and it still had the same problem. Having said that the other usb i used wasn't a particularly high quality one as it was just an old one i had lying around. Not sure whether I want to ship out on an expensive usb lead unless its the very last resort.

It won't be the RCA's as the time code signal is fine according to the LED's on the soundcard. Its the USB LED that starts flashing like it does when its not connected.

Im also not moving the USB cable at all as i did wonder whether the usb connector on my laptop was faulty.

Either your USB port/cable is shoddy or maybe an overheating issue? Do either the laptop or audio interface feel hot?

Neither of them feel particularly hot although admittedly the audio 6 is tucked into my flightcase so i'll take it out to give it more ventilation. My laptop isn't running hot and the CPU load bar rarely goes beyond halfway so I don't think its a CPU problem.

When it disconnects when solely on USB power (IE the DC adapter isn't plugged it) the unit doesn't ever power down which suggests to me that it isn't the USB connection itself as it maintains power draw and that instead its a software problem.

I've been fiddling with the wire and I've come to the conclusion theres something wrong with the core as the unit comes on and off when i wiggle it. A new wire has been bought and i'm kicking myself that its such a simple thing . Anyway cheers guys haha

check your outlet power with a voltmeter!!! usually that kind of problems happens because of a bad usb cable or because of power spikes!!! since you check the cables, power it's the next thing you should check!!

probably the audio 6s USB port. there are little clamps inside, they may need bent out slightly to give a tighter fit
