the VCI has more than enough buttons if you start using shift functions.

I want to be able to set option 1 - all vci-100 controls for traktor (normal) with some vj effects midi mapped already

ex. cut the bass = colors the screen green
cut the mids = colors the screen red
fade song a - song b = fade video a - video b

and then with a switch of a button or whatever, it goes to option 2 - where the vci-100 midi controls are all blank, from where I can now map MORE buttons, knobs and sliders to my VJ app.

This isnt a very good forum to be asking these sorts of questions,
You could use MidiOx so the two programs can both read the messages at the same time and you can use Bomes to create these shift functions, check out the shift function thread on the general board for more info on that.

Btw - im all for what you are doing with that You also might want to chek out how Ableton can send midi when a audio clip is launched. You could use this to automate effects when you trigger audio clips, or use dummy clips which will do the same thing but produce no audio.
