Default VCI 100SE v1.4 Arcade edition - Left fader causing issues(!!)

Hey all, wonder if you can help - Whenever I raise the left fader on my VCI it causes the driver to stop working or uninstall for some reason. It's very weird. Is it likely to be a hardware problem rather than a software one? It never used to happen.

    I am using windows 10.
    HP laptop with core i5
    version 4.1 mapping from DJTT

    Any help appreciated.

What do you mean by "driver stopped working/ uninstalls"?

I don´t use any driver for my VCI.

I once had the problem, that one fader jumped around madly in Traktor when I moved the VCI´s fader.
I solved this issue by cleaning the faders with a q-tip and cleaning alcohol.

The VCI is plug and play, so when first using it it needs to have a driver (it is probably a generic one) which MS finds for you. When I raise the left fader the computer makes a sound as if the USB cable has been unplugged and the VCI no longer sends data to the laptop! It is very very weird.

I am wondering if I have somehow messed up the mapping or something but have downloaded and installed a number of times.

1 thing I have noticed is that under controller mappings the Port In/Port out doesn't gve me the option of choosing VCI - it just says none.

That's probably a hardware issue rather than a mapping/driver one. Check the fader itself for grime or if there is anything that might be shorting it, causing the reboot.

Unfortunally, I´m not a windows expert.

But, you might want to check your VCI first, before investigating on your computer.

I assume, you already cleaned your faders with cleaning alcohol.

Download a midi monitor program. Plug in your VCI and check if it sends data using that application.
Don´t start traktor or any other midi program while using a midi monitor.

Check this with different computers and different OS. (MacOS, Windows8,..)

If you can reproduce your issues on different systems, it is your VCI´s fault.
If not, itmight be worth to reinstall your OS.

does this only happens with the left fader?
behaves the VCI normal when using all other knobs, buttons, jogs?

did you try another midi controller? maybe deleting the generic driver and installing another midi hardware could succesfully install the midi driver.
