Ive installed LOTS of Win10 and have never had a single install where a piece of hardware didnt work afterwards.

You might be talking about the generic Windows drivers, rather than the specific vendors drivers, but thats not Microsofts fault, and youll always need to add specific vendor drivers afterwards to use specific features.

If you are moving over to MAC just for DJ'ing, I can recommend it, but if you are looking into production, building a decent pc is the way to go.
Your mate should get someone who knows what they are doing to look at their PC. I have literally zero problems with 64 bit VSTs on 64 bit Win 10. It might just be specfic problems with specific VSTs which has nothing to do with microsoft.

Specifically issues with Spire, Trillian, and Widebug. The 32 bit versions run fine, but the 64 bit versions crash in FLStudio, Ableton, and Bitwig. Tried re downloading and reinstalling, but no go. They are legit copies too.

Yeah that just sounds like vendor issues, rather than any underlying windows architecture problems.

If it was me, id start by emailing the vendors and asking about their recommendations for 64 bit win 10.

It could also be related to poor W10 x64 audio interface drivers.

Yeah - that's exactly what I mean. Windows *tries* to run other vendors hardware (and made some noise about being good at it), but the generic Win10 10 drivers are WORSE than having no drivers at all for 3rd party hardware.

But why would you even try running specialist hardware with generic drivers?

You would just install the vendors drivers as part of the install process. I wouldnt expect any decent functionality out of a Nvidia GPU until I had installed the Nvidia drivers.
