    Default N.I. Kontrol S5 - Should i buy one

I'm considering buying a Kontrol S5, before the price goes back up.

Has anybody got any horror stories / reasons not to buy?

Most of my controllers have been standard "Jog wheel" based machines. Although I do have an X1 for back up / venues with built in mixers, & I also used to own a Novation Twitch. ....so i'm used to the idea of Touch strips.

I'm not totally sold on the idea of stems yet, but the screens do appeal.

My lappy is an 11' MacBook air, so i'm thinking library primarily on the air's screen (treating my lappy almost like a record box), & transport / fx etc on the S5 screens.

So, go ahead & talk me out of it.

Ok. ....it's late but off the top of my head.

Is it overkill for just A/B mixing?
I've seen a few people reporting crashes / freezing. Is that the usual small minority, or is there a real issue.
The mic input. Will it route through a live deck for EQ etc, without any problems. (again, i'm seeing people having problems on line).
Can you also use decks C/D as standard decks, or are they stems / remix only?
    Cheers

I don't think it's overkill, especially at the sale price. It gives you room to expand your abilities.
Freezes and crashes seem to be due to older GPUs in laptops, specifically the old Intel HD3000 or similar.
The AUX input routes separate to the mixer channels, outputting to the master. It uses the touch ribbons to control output. It's not super elegant, but for the money...
Any of the decks can be set up as any type, though one of my criticisms of the controller is that the lack of transport faders make it much less useful for remix decks.

I don't use stems at all. I came from a controller with jogs, and I don't miss them at all. The S5 is the perfect balance for everything that I need.

Started off with an s5, definitely is the best option to start off with but have added 2 D2s to have full permanent 4 deck control and full stem control. Couldn't be happier apart from the desk space needed
