I wouldn't be so sure about joking. As a frequent shopper at ThinkGeek, I can all but promise you that it's being done.
I'm pretty sure I saw an article saying the people who make that are indeed planning midi support for the next model. It was on CDM or some odd site.I'm not good at things, but I like to pretend I am.
