Eighteenth birthday, 1997. Shit belt drives and terrible mixer, freshly unpacked. Trying to mix the 2 Bad Mice Bombscare remixes record and T99 - Anastasia. No YouTube tutorials, no forums, no DJ friends. Look at me now!

Great day, big mistake in the beginning, but just winning after that.

Literally spent all day attempting to mix the same 2 records together over and over again then rinsed and repeated for a week until I got it locked tight, as has been said no tutorials or forums, no waveforms or a laptop in sight, I don't even think USB ports had been invented yet. Glad I learnt on belt drives as you were constantly correcting throughout a mix. I also spent time to work out the equipment I had, all the connections and what all the knobs buttons and faders did, it was a much simpler time back then, buy records play records, no mapping, gig prep, beatgridding or fx .... happy days!
You're first day will be the worst. Massive disappointment. You always assumed you'd be a natural - but you're not.
But guess what - no-one is. DJ'ing demands a LOT of hard work, over a lot of time. It's easier now than it's ever been, though.

The guys who startoff with software and sync will not experience what it feels like hearing a mess of unsynced beats on your headphone and you have no idea how in the world you can hear which track is going faster and in wich direction you should slide the pitchfader. And when you try to change the tempo the mess of beats gets even worse. However, those software guys skip a training that teaches you to listen to tracks accurately.
