Hello, I'm finally leaving my CD's behind and ready to buy a Denon controller. My question is how reliable are controllers in the category of computer freezing or mp3 loss? Do all you controller DJ's have CD player back-ups when on a job?

What Denon controller ya after?
In my setup I have a spare netbook that runs Traktor also doubles up as a ADJ lighting system and do have the added security of CD's.
In fact on Saturday night, my laptop did a poop. The Denon DJ driver crashed mid gig, the CD's fell into play, because I left my netbook in the car, the false security of what I thought was a secure and reliable system. It does help to be able to troubleshoot quickly. I played from CD for 10 mins while I reinstalled the driver software. The controller did it's thing, (doubled up as a hardware mixer) and I was back running from lappy in a short time.
No laptop system is 100% reliable, there's a lot of elements in play. But I'm in no doubt that I would change nothing.

Hello DJ AdeSands, I'm thinking about the DN-MC4000. I want to keep it relatively simple since I'm an old school DJ and still mix by ear and don't need all kinds of bells and whistles. My laptop is a Lenovo 80 UD w/ 4G ram and 1T hdd.
Good unit, the laptop should work fine as well.
I can't emphasise enough though the absolute necessity for a backup plan should the pc present a problem, the 4000 has an aux. Thru port, which can be used via an external device to cover ya in the rare event that your well maintained PC has a sorry turn..

Thank you AdeSands for your prompt input. Have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year.
