    Default Boosting recorded mix level

I've been recording my mixes using a zoom external recorder and the mixes come out a little quiet. Ideally I'd like to record with a extra headroom and boost after the recording, but I'm not sure how to accomplish this. I know that I can boost the recording level on the zoom but I'm paranoid about clipping after loosing a couple of sessions. Ive also tried using normalize in audacity but haven't been psyched with the results. Any advice? Thanks.

Don't normalize in audacity. Use the amplification control and raised the level. Normalizing is setting everything to the averages of the sound you recorded.
