    Default Shure M44-7 Stylus Replacements

Has anyone tried the stylus replacements for the Shure M44-7 needles that you can find on ebay for 1/3-1/2 the price of the Shure branded N44-7 stylus? The budget jobs are like $12 and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with them. They look identical; is there any reason I shouldn't save the $?

I spent too much time the last few weeks looking at needles and cartridges. Ugh.

I use them regularly. They are great for timecode, but rubbish for actual vinyl. They track well, but the sound quality is scary. :-p

@the_bastet any details on what makes them "scary"? I definitely want something I can use with actual vinyl too so will probably go with the Shure branded ones if that's an issue.

The highs are missing between 11-13khz. The pickup gain is super low. The lows between 150-400hz seem unbalanced.

It's worth it to spend the extra $30 per stylus for the actual m44 replacement.
