These did look promising - but they never materialised.

Ahh...I missed those.
Most of the people I've seen on Serato either use the laptop to pick tracks or use the lead-out area on the record to scroll through playlists (that's what I always did).
ok so the idea evolve now, is it possible to play and have loaded some parts of different tracks in sampler so for example track 1 is playing and i could play some looped short samples of different tracks to make some transition to another track ? Something like in ableton where there are 8 tracks so all sort of short tracks fx lops can be added/layered to tracks ect

It's called a Remix Deck...

Recordbox can do the same what remix deck?
AFAIK, Traktor is the only thing that can really do that.
Rekordbox does have a sampler that seems to be ablet to tempo-match loops, but I haven't played with it.
One alternative would be to use decks 3 and 4 for that in RB, but you'll need controls and stuff for them.
Did you not end up with a Z2? If you did, why not just use Traktor Scratch? At most, you'll have to add an F1 to control a remix deck, but there are okay controls to experiment with it on the Z2.
