    Not if you're happy with your current mixer, no. You just need to decide which software you like (or hate least) and then check on its website to see what (if any) hardware is required to run/unlock it. Most of them do pretty much the same as each other, just with different GUI and/or work flow. If I've comprehended your first post correctly, you're not looking to be the next DMC champion, so you'll probably be fine with any of them.

    The advantage is that less hardware means less setup time when playing out, as well less chances for failure. There are also less digital to analog conversions, although you probably won't be able to hear the difference.

    On the other hand, if you play out on other people's mixers, they might not always have a built-in interface, so in that case it's useful to have a separate interface.
