Default Run Trakor At It's Finest, Even If You Don't Run An Expensive Machine

seeing how most people here including myself have a shared regard for a certain program (which ill keep nameless) considering at times it's a love/hate relationship with us PC users when it gets to be a bit unstable if things aren't accommodated just right for it.. well since my stay here at DJTT iv read a grip of tech advice & tweeks to help that program run at it's potential & its not only helped with "that program" but teach me a lot in general. so iv rounded a few up, including mine, to help a few friends iv gotten in to traktor -uh-..i mean..that program, to make it easy for them & you

    clean/update your computer

    disk clean up

    disk defrag

    windows update

    registry clean

    temp file & "junk" clean

    driver update

    uninstall unwanted programs

    above's directions: http://www.djtechtools.com/forum/sho...hlight=healthy

    Optimize

set processor to best run background services (to lower latency)

edit what programs start up (to allocate more CPU to dj/producer software)

    end explorer

    above's directions: http://www.djtechtools.com/2009/07/1...e_windows_djs/

disable virtual memory (if you have 2+gigs of ram)

    turn on direct memory access

disable windows sounds (you dont want them in yr mix)

    above's directions: http://www.audioforums.com/windows-xp-optimization.php

    Speed up your system

have an old Flash Drive or SD card? (using Microsoft Readyboost you can use it like additional RAM!)

    explained here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...eadyboost.aspx

Readyboost direction by Windows Help & Support:
"1. Plug a flash drive or flash memory card into your computer.

    2. In the Autoplay dialog box, under General options, click Speed up my system.

    3. In the Properties dialog box, click the ReadyBoost tab, and then do one of the following:

    - To turn ReadyBoost off, click Do not use this device.

    - To use the maximum available space on the flash drive or memory card for ReadyBoost, click Dedicate this device to ReadyBoost. Windows will leave any files already stored on the device, but it'll use the rest to boost your system speed.

    - To use less than the maximum available space on the device for ReadyBoost, click Use this device, and then move the slider to choose the amount of available space on the device you want to use.

    4. Click OK." & your Flash drive or SD card is now acting as additional RAM! (so to speak)

    next

    clean your (actual) RAM

& apply windows prefetch to your program

    above's directions: http://www.djtechtools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9194

    General tweaks

always keep your laptop plugged in & go into power option (windows 7: control panel > power options) & select high performance

use USB 2.0 cables for controllers & soundcard (less chance of latency, among other things)

find in the DJTT store: http://techtools.myshopify.com/colle...ity-usb-cables

    download/install the latest ASIO4ALL drivers currently: http://tippach.business.t-online.de/..._9_English.exe

look on your product manufacturers websites for drivers updates for your controllers, soundcards, as well as updates for your DVS/DAW softwares.

download a freeware program called Game Booster that temporally stops all unwanted processes by switching into "Gaming Mode" at: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

    disable network connections
(In windows 7 click Control Panel > Network&Sharing Service > Change Adapter Settings, click "disable" located above the connection type for both)

also disable bluetooth (unless your using a wii mote )

If your computer is still running real slow & these changes don't bring it up to life your most likely running way low on RAM memory, RAM are these little sticks you can easily upgrade in both laptops and desktops that can be found for really cheep & make a world of difference on how fast you computer runs (only RAM made specifically for your brand & model) ..even in worse case scenarios like if you have to reformat, at least then you can make the best of the situation & upgrade to a better version of windows.. (I recommend Ultimate 7)

this posts thanks goes to everyone who's shared their knowledge,
if you know further tech advice it's appreciated///

i tend to agree with chris pirillo that registry cleaners do WAY more harm than good.

Or get a mac and do nothing of the above :P

Seriously, I can use traktor, browse the internet, burn a cd, and use uTorrent all at the same time with zero glitches.

My MBP is 2 years old...

Might check out gamebooster. The /prefetch thing is a complete and utter urban myth though, I'm afraid.
