Bill Hicks on Marketing and advertisement:

If you don't know this guy the famous speech from Adam Freeland "We want your soul" is taken from this video:

That is an intelligent use of a sample.

Using a McDonals sample is working for their brainwash... ehem... advertisement department for free.

All I wanted was BADA BA BA BA!

Not political blah blah blah blah blah! Most of us are Dj's not egotistical politicians!

Why are you saying the name McDonalds then? That's consumer awareness or whatever! You should say "Company that shall not be named" if so against it!

I think you should do 2 things:

    1) look for a dictionnary and check what "politics" and "egotistical" mean

    2) be conscious of what advertisement does and how it affects people, specially oneself.

    Doing that would be nonsense.

First because the thread has McDonalds on it's name, so it's obvious who we are talking about.

Second because everytime I say "McDonalds" I say my opinion against it, which is the oposite of using the musical hook of their advertisement to implant it even more on people's minds. Doing that is classical Paulov conditioning which is the ultimate goal of advertisement. Wether that goal is achieved depends entirely on consciousness.

There are two ways of being more conscious: being intelligent and sensitive enough to notice things and get informed, or doing "political blah blah" as you called it.

+1 on keeping your political beliefs for yourself in a thread about DJ samples on a DJ forum

Also, does anyone have just the "Bara pa pa paaaa- I'm loving it" piece? That sample was like an extended mix
I used to link music in my signature but nowadays I don't.

Then buy it locally, from a local farmer who treats 'em well, and feeds them actual food instead of hormone enhanced, antibiotic enriched gen-modified protein/corn hash, while they wallow in their own filth their entire lives.

Then maybe you can say you know something about "delicious".

I'm pretty sure most people can find somewhere in their town that stocks good meat. It ain't that hard to find.

You're right though. To keep it on point, sound is information, and information can be encoded into sound. Through association, translation, interpretation and a billion other mechanisms, we respond to sound, and it can hugely influence our state of mind.

Please try to understand, that jingle (and it's not alone), is "weighted" or "charged" by the fact that it's essence is about selling product. If I heard a DJ scratching that sound or whatever, I think my first reaction would be to think it was whack. Just tryin' to be honest.

I'm cool with my dj selling me music, but not burgers. Get enough of that sh** at home on the tv.

I support my local butcher heaps! He's tops!

I just wanted the sample cause it sounded good and wanted to scratch the vocal, etc! I see it as piece of music not a subliminal message for "sell more burgers"!

I thought politics was an issue or events which are of concern or effect to the public or given society? And egotistical can be an interpretation of the word pride, in which pride for your environmental beliefs would hinder your choice in music pending on it's ethics!

On ya for having your beliefs and taking a stand in these cases. But for me I look at the big picture and see that making a stand against such weighty issues won't cause any offset whatsoever, These corporate a$$ wipes have such a monopoly on the world that they can do whatever it is they please without a thought for the repercussions!

    That's my opinion!
