Default Best and Worst Trends in Dance Music 2009.

after seeing the other thread about best song of 2009, i thought it'd be fun to see what DJTT's opinions are of the best/worst trends in Dance Music were of the year. Here's my two cents worth:

    Best of 09:

    Resurgence of Garage/2-Step

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ui5TGMWNEPo

There has been quite a few hot 2-step tunes coming out, but the first one that comes to mind is the hugely refreshing remix of Florence + the Machine - You've Got The Love by The XX. Just makes me wanna drop a few rolls, bust out the glowsticks and give someone i just met a big sweaty plur hug!

    Worst of 09:

Annoying Minimal DanceHall (or whatever you want to call it)

    http://cowbell.fm/track/155431-french-fries-coconut
this tune, "french fries- coconut" is a perfect example of what i'm talking about... not to mention the kajillion terrible remixes of Major Lazer's Pon De Floor.
when i first started hearing this kind of stuff it sounded cool because it was different, but at this point i just want it to die off and fade away. can't stand hearing this garbage anymore and it's all over the blogs, god! i don't know how people can listen to this shit.

Now let's hear your guys picks!

    Best of 2009
I hate to say this, but pop-ish dance music that lends itself to GOOD remixes.

    Worst of 2009
Calvin Harris comes out from under the rock he's been hiding for a few years. And somehow ends up flooding hype machine with an endless amount of awful tracks.

Also a big +1 for Pon De Floor and anyone who disgraced them self enough to remix it.

One of my fave tunes this year is from the amazing PASSION PIT which ironically is the Calvin Harris mix which is very New Order(ish).

    A good Dubstep remix.

    ------

By far the most overated track of the year is this boring take on a good original tune.
I DJd for La Roux before this horse shit took over.
    DULLSTEP.

^great pics karlos, love the funky slap-bass on that calvin harris remix - so contagious! ... couldn't agree more about that skream tune, imo skream is probably one of the most overrated punters in dubstep (second to maybe joker) - i totally don't get the hype.

yeah there's been a lot of crossover between the indie rock scene and dance music over the last couple years, both scenes borrowing bits and pieces from eachother - some more successfully than others mind you. but i agree, many of the best dance remixes of the past year have been of indie tunes.
haha and that calvin harris tune is god awful, the guy is pretty hit and miss these days; then again a lot of the young blog-house producers are.

its funny how everyone likes to throw crap at people who make it really big and such. happens to loads of people. tiesto, hawtin, calvin harris. i know loads of people who call david guetta a sellout for working with mainstream singers. these are people who are expanding dance music into mainstream and we should be happy for that. my sister loves guetta and because of that i have been showing her house and electro and she is starting to really like it.

dude, really? Calvin Harris worst of 2009? If its gonna be top 40's music, I would rather listen to him any day of the week than anything mainstream america has to offer. His lyrics are riduculous, but he does produce his own tracks, and makes some sounds and sequences (hey, even if you only writes 32 bars, it beats the crap out of the 4 bars that america offers me). He even tastefully uses autotune, instead of using it like a noob.

Edit* also, I love The XX, they are amazing
