    Default Freezing/extending a vocal - ableton

    Using ableton

Im trying to create the effect of freezing a vocal that sounds almost like a loop but without the repeat sound

    @ 2:48

'why dont you kill meeeeeeeeeemeeeeeeeemeeeee" doesnt sound like a loop but more of a freeze effect
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDW1PWEaGbg

I couldnt find any tutorials or info in forums. maybe im using the wrong terminology

    Any Ideas?

I feel like it could be some sort of clean reverb or reverse reverb

I can't watch youtube on my work computer so I'm not sure if this is exactly what your looking for, but I used to take acapellas and cut out a tiny section (maybe a few wavelengths) and open that up in a sample and set it to loop and essentially use it as a vocal synth. It has varying results depending on your sample. I've had good results with Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber vocals though (don't judge me for doing avant-garde remixes of a 15 year old girl's idols.)

Yeah, sounds like it's just a repeated loop in the song you posted. Try taking shorter/longer snippets and looping them, sometimes you can also create interesting rhythm effects by taking marginally different samples (like a ms left or right) and pasting in the arrange view, even though this wasn't the effect you were going for, it could be cool.

ya i managed to get 90% of the way there...thanks for the help. i shouldnt have given up on the loop idea in the first place

I ended up warping it and then looping the tail. once the area I wanted it to repeat wasnt so short it sounded much nicer

    thanks for all the help

Get the length you want and loop it then throw some effects over it to get it sounding just how you want it. You can throw a Delay on the end to trail it out or I would play around with some filters. Also you could try stacking the loops. Play each loop overlapping just a millisecond or two. Sometimes can produce a cool effect.
