Here we go again... VCI 100SE or S2

So... I grew up DJing starting with a ghetto rigged turntable, radio, tapedeck setup when I was 11 or 12 then finally getting a Numark DJ in a box at age 12. I have owned Dual Denon CD Players, CDJ 1000s, Tech 12s with Serato... Now I am venturing back into DJing full time and also wanting to travel alot domestic and internationally and hope to pick up a few bookings along the way. So here is my question that I know you all have probably answered in some for or fashion before but I would like the satisfaction of personalized responses, not just searching threads. Sorry, just being honest!

I really love the fact of having a setup so small I can throw in an average sized laptop bag or backpack and just go. Ala, the VCI 100SE and an Audio 2 Soundcard. The smaller the better in my opinion. I love to cut and scratch as that is what got me interested in DJing 15+ years ago and so jog wheels are a must. I really like the idea of the Kontrol S2 it is just a tad big for easy transport. However, the VCI 100SE is about 4 years old if not older now... Is it considered old technology? Should I cross it off my list if I am planning to be DJing larger clubs, outdoor events, etc? Is the Audio 2 going to pack enough powder and punch for something outside of a bedroom, house party, and small bars?

Just a few questions I would love answered as the S2 is super affordable or I can get a VCI on Ebay with a Audio2 for $200 give or take.

I was very excited whnen the VCI 380 hit but the more I look at it the more turned off I am as sad as I am am to say.

I came from spinning vinyl. I dont cut or scratch. I currently use an X1 and a Xone 22. Perfect for me.

As for portability and booking gigs along the way, CDJs are probably your best bet. I would be suspect of some guy mixing a 30 minute set on a VCI. There is no way i would feel comfortable letting you have an hour slot without the stipulation that i could walk up and shut you off at any time.

Too many people now a days all want to be DJs. I appreciate that you come from the cassettes and vinyl era, but as a promoter and booker, I don't believe you.

vci 380 looks wicked... why no like?

vci100 is heavy, I had one.

S2 is better option IMO. The mappings on here (see midi maps in nav bar ^^) are wicked.

Its bigger but it's lighter than vci. The jogs are tighter, better for scratching.

I thought the 380 looked sick though. if u used serato then maybe itch is more your thing?

Yea Max, the 380 looks a little too heavy for me. Its pretty. Just a but much in the weight. Plus I am really interested in getting into Traktor Pro.

I am not going to book some mook i have never heard of with a controller and a 30 minute mix. That's every DJ now a days. I didn't ask you to prove me anything. I wouldn't book you. If you left DJ-ing and are coming back "full time" like your first post indicates, there is no way i would book you.

I also come from splicing reel to reels together...I don't need your references...

Why not get a denon mc3000? Much better option than both..

MC3000 is too cramped, as well as the 6000. You'd look like you're hunt-and-peck typing trying to use that thing. I know the 6000 does function as a stand alone mixer, as well as the 380. So if you were in an environment that supplied CDJ's or 1200's you could potentially hook them up for back-up in case of digital failure.

As for the VCI vs. S2 thing it's a no-brainer that the S2 is a superior controller. NHL protocol instead of MIDI allows for much better sounding scratching, even with DJTT's suped up firmware to increase jog resolution. The sample deck controls are shoddy and didn't work well for me.

The S2 can be mapped in both NHL and MIDI mode so gaining control over EVERY SINGLE PARAMETER of Traktor up to and including 4 decks, 4 FX units, Clock/Rec, Loop Recorder, Jog Browse, and more is absolutely achievable. I feel the market is flooded with them so if you're a good clist badger you should be able to find one around $250.
