Standalone DJ Controller with screens
Hi,
I've mixed on a vinyl setup for the longest time and I'm finally turning to easy-to-carry-around mp3-based solutions. So I'm turning to you guys to see if you could point at the perfect controller for me.
I've tried a couple of controllers so far:
- kontrol s8 : didn't like it, my philosophy is remix or perform deep live stuff on a computer and use a straightforward controller for mixing, possibly with an effect pad, the s8 stand weirdly inbetween imo
- numark nv : liked it a lot, I like to be able to manually beatmatch (VERY annoying on the s8), the multiple decks work well, the general feel is pretty good. HOWEVER, I would really LOVE to be able to take it on a trip WITHOUT a laptop.
I liked the screens in both cases and the s8 felt pretty good overall (higher quality and better touchpads), I'm just not buying into that remix deck ****.
So basically I'm looking for the following features on my dream controller.
MUST BE/HAVE:
- standalone, does not need to be plugged to a computer
- jog wheels + pitch fader (if motorized, even better, I will always love the real turntable feel)
- screen(s) : I like seeing where my track and the waves (again, the feel of the vinyl..)
PREFERABLY HAS:
- 2x usb inputs to be able to switch sticks seemlessly when DJs take turn
- 4 channels and decks rather than only 2
- motorized platters
- lighweight and small size (I'm going to carry it around, it's not just staying at home)
- somme effects (always welcome)
The only candidates I found so far are :
- Pioneer xdj rx : only has two decks, seems pretty big considering it only needs two channels, wheels aren't motorized, but it has effects. So far the only controller I've found that seems to fit my 3 must-have criteria.
- Numark NS7III : has motorized wheels with 4 decks but looks really huge and thick but more importantly I can't seem to figure out if it really can run as standalone or if it HAS to have the laptop. If it runs as standalone then there's a sligh negative of only having 1 usb stick slot.
Any feedback on this will be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Nairod.
