Default Pioneer setup expansion without tracktor

    Hi Guys,

I have a Pioneer DJM 750K mixer and I thinking of buying an external effects (FX) unit to use effects like echo freeze etc. I would not be using traktor as I have 2 * CDJ 2000 nexus and I would not like them getting throwed away by getting on Traktor (correct me if I am wrong)

Could anyone please advise, what should I get compatible to my units?

Also I have searched it up in previous threads but seems like there's isn't any thread which answer my question.

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Why not use Traktor WITH your CDJ-2000 in HID mode? That way you would get all of Traktor effects (including echo freeze) without spending a shitload on a separate efx unit.

Thanks 'SlayforMoney' I will give this a try. That also means, for every gig I do, I have to carry my laptop instead of only USB?

I have mates who use Traktor S4 and that looks really unprofessional and all they focus is on their laptop with a silly small setup.

Silly observation but most of the DJ's I have seen playing without any laptop, and they're interacting well with the crowd! Do you think using Traktor really gives an edge for a DJ's performance?

I am really a newbie so I would really like to hear your opinion on this?

Your ability to interact with the crowd doesn't depend on whether you are using a controller and a laptop or a typical "club" setup. Granted, it is very easy to just stare at your laptop if you aren't careful. It can be avoided if you take the time to prepare your sets with traktor the same way you would if you were using a USB stick.

When I saw Caked Up recently live, they were using a laptop, and they most definitely were interacting with the crowd. I've also seen DJs do a terrible job of crowd interaction while using just CDJs. It really depends on the DJ, not the gear.

You can't have searched very hard if you haven't considered the 2 pioneer fx units available. **cough - RMX 1000 and 500**
    MacBook Pro, HD25's, Midi-Fighter Classic, Pioneer DDJ-RX , Rekordbox

@Scribbl3 & @Kooper Thank you guys for your advice! Now I have another challenge on what to select for effects

    - Use Traktor
    - Use RMX 500

With HID all of the information you need is on the CDJ screens so you can put traktor in browser mode just to select tracks more easily. Most laptop DJ's put their laptop in between them and the crowd and that is a problem as you have noticed.
