Default Looking for advice from D2 / X1 / Push owners

Help me DJ tech tools your my only hope.....

Im sure this has been asked a million times before but im really struggling here, Im hoping you guys that are owners of any of this kit can help me make my mind up. Ive watched endless reviews and demos of each bit of kit but i keep changing my mind from one to the other. The short of it is ive made the jump into traktor, really enjoy using it - curently with an APC40 MK1 but it just doesnt cut it for me, i dont use sync and its all abit clunky... anyhows ive got some money to spend on some new gear so i will cut to the chase

    D2 -

Pros: Looks to have all bases covered, Screen, fx, library browsing, deck control, no more staring at a laptop screen

Cons: not overly keen on the idea of not having decks A & B stacked on the screen as it kinda disrupts my workflow. Dont know how practical it is as its a pretty new unit

    X1mk2 pair -

Pros: Portability, compact, tried and tested for a few years now, heard nothing but good things, offers full control over 4 decks if i want it

Cons: Will rely on the laptop screen more than the D2

    Push -

Pros: Can use it in my ableton set up for producing music, can remap it for use in traktor so will be multi purpose for me, lots of stuff available for mapping

Cons: Not native to traktor, less portable, having to spend afew hours in traktors midi mapping screen alot bigger than the D2 and X1s - im running out of space as it is, would still be staring at a laptop screen and cant imagine it would be any less "clunky" than the APC40

Between the 3 units there isnt much difference in price, in the current market i would save around £70 going down the pair of x1's route but would probably end up getting a set of the cases that bring them up to mixer height anyway. If any of you guys have any experience of using Push with traktor, own x1s or have splashed out on a nice shiny D2 i would love to hear your findings and advice

    thanks in advance

I have the Push with Traktor. It is awesome for Ableton and with a little hard work, it great for Traktor. There is some good mappings already. I've been working on mine for a while. Sad part about Traktor with push is the LCD is pretty useless unless you use a secondary program for Sysex commands.

This is a great mapping. I'm using some of his max code in my setup

I would think about your criteria for what you want.

Do you want an out-of-box experience with Traktor?

Do you need something versatile for both?

    Is a screen necessary?

Figure out what takes priority in these factors.

thanks for the reply man, sometimes just talking about it with someone else clears the mind and puts things into perspective. I've watched a couple of vids on youtube of the trash mapping and it looks pretty cool, it wasn't until i saw that vid that it made me consider push as an option and as i said before it would be dual purpose as i could use it for knocking up tracks and generally messing about inside ableton. The reason for me considering the d2 is mainly due to the amount of room i have available, currently have 2 x 1210 mk2s, DJM, APC40 and an MPD24 - not to mention my macbook, amp and speakers etc, i have also recently had a baby so the spare room was cleared out and after much deliberating i persuaded my mrs to let me move it all into our bedroom - something shes still not over the moon about
Anyhows with the D2 i figure i can take the laptop out of the setup and off to the side and the screen would then serve its purpose - again will take up less room than the push. The X1's offer me more control over traktor for my money, are portable enough for me to take them out with me. My local music equipment shop offers the ability to test out all the kit mentioned so i may just spend afew hours in there and see how i get on with each one.

It's a lot easier to squeeze an X1 beside a house mixer than a D2, just saying

I think the D2 is overkill unless you're using remix decks or the new stems.

Since I'm new to traktor i haven't had a look at the remix decks yet, pretty much just jamming with the track decks and launching single shot samples from those. This stems thing sounds cool but i suppose time will tell if producers and labels jump on it or not, I've got a couple more weeks before i go shopping so plenty of time to make my mind up

Plus, traktor will not have stems support for at least 3 more updates anyway mate. Get 2 X1's you wont be sorry

    Good choice.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the lack of screens on the X1's. You end up using the laptop screen only when necessary as the majority of functions are easily laid out on the X1. Plus I always figure that if I absolutely must look at a screen (which is rarely) then I'd much rather look at a 13" screen than a 5" (or whatever the D2 is).
