For $800, you will find a laptop that will easily work with a DAW. I would suggest getting at least 8GB of RAM if possible. 500+ GB hard drive.. SSD if you can.
I actually recently bought a throwaway Asus to use for strictly internet browsing, cost $250. 4GB RAM, 500GB HD. Thing runs Ableton without the slightest issue, and those are low specs. With that budget you have a lot to choose from.
Make sure to get an SSD, atleast an i3 and 6 - 8 gb of ram.
This will last you atleast five years, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...opsunder800-20
On top of the i7, 12gb of ram, the AMD 2gb ... you get a 4k display and touchscreen.. That is pretty fucking good. This is the best deal you will ever find.
If you want to look into brands.. Take a look;

Put as much money as you can into the CPU (i7 quad-core). Don't get anything with a dedicated GPU. Get 8GB or maybe 16 GB of RAM. You'll probably want a 15" or larger screen. SSD is nice to have, but HD is fine and in that price range I'd rather put more into the CPU than getting a SSD.
Why no GPU?

Obviously you need some sort of GPU, but not a dedicated (not-included-in-the-CPU) one. i7 processors have a build-in-GPU, which is just fine for music production. An additional GPU would just cost extra money.
I recommend an Intel processor: i5 or higher.
Max the RAM (8-16GB).
And a SSD.
This combination will give you years of flawless music production.
MacBookPro 11,1 | i5 2,4GHz | 16 GB RAM | 256 GB SSD
MacOSX 10.15.x | TraktorPro 3.x | VCI-100 SE FW 1.4 | VCI-400 SE (EGE)
The advice about SSD (for the working files at least), 5GB of RAM, and i5 or better processor are all good starting points.
Get a laptop with both USB3 and USB2 ports. There remain some sound interfaces that only work with USB2. USB3 is REALLY nice for backups, and for running an external port replicator.
I prefer a slightly smaller laptop and for "desktop" use I add an external keyboard, mouse, and dual monitors. I use an external port replicator to keep the "docking" of the laptop simple. Mine is similar to this (and I have a Dell laptop), but only supports dual monitors....I need to plug the laptop into power and a single USB3 connection. There are "universal" versions of this for about $80.
