Which monitors for mixing at home?
Hi,
I'm searching for the right monitors for deejaying at home. I play mainly techno/house and have quite a big room (26m²).
What size should the monitors be? I plan to put them on a shelf (look at the attached picture), so that they have the perfect ear height (I often see pictures of deejay setups with monitors positioned at belly height…?) The shelf is 1,5m long.
My neighbors bellow me get sometimes angry about too much bass. My current floor speakers (Wharfedale Jade 5) are generating too much vibration (even If I listen quietly…*I think they are placed badly inside my room).
So should I either get 6 or 8"? As you can see on the picture I'm not standing too far away from the monitors…
Which model can you recommend me? They don't necessary need to be super neutral (i don't plan to produce with them)…
I currently have the following monitors on my radar: Yamaha HS7/8 (neutral), krk rokit 6/8 (more bass emphasized) & Pioneer DJ60X/DJ80X. I don't plan to spend more than 500 Euro.

I would go for 6", maybe even 5".
Your room is too small for an 8" bass wave to form properly.
My room is a little bit bigger, and I found 5" to be perfect.
I went for Mackie MR-5, as that these were perfect for the minimal techno, dub techno, techno, progressive and drum & bass projects we conducted at that time.
My budget on that time was tight, otherwise I would have gone for the Mackie HR-624

I personally have the Pioneer monitors and they are amazing. I also have a room a bit bigger than yours and I believe 5'' are the perfect size, anything bigger would be too much..
