Buying a used pioneer ddj sr?

Do you need to have the software if you buy a used ddj sr or can you just download it for free (like I did with an sl1 years ago). I had an s4 years ago that I had to unlicense in order to sell it to the next user, any of that stuff with pioneer?

the DDJ-SR acts like a usb-key for Serato DJ. It will unlock the full version only when plugged in and turned on. If for whatever reason you need the full software without having the SR plugged in, then you'll need to purchase it separately.

Just download, Serato will activate once you plug in the SR, no need for the original owner to de-activate.
