Default Which DJ Controller should I get?

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a mid-range dj controller. Around €500 maybe more, maybe less. I had A Hercules DJ Control Air before, but thought it wasn't enough.
I don't mind if it's Traktor or Serato or Rekordbox.

    Thanks for any replies

I've started off doing with a DDJ-SR which is a pretty good controller for its price (€600 or less) which can do most of the stuff (FX, pad sampling etc.) it has two channels but you can convert deck one for deck 3 and deck 2 for deck 4 which I think is pretty hard to handle considering it only has a two channel mixer. I think that if you aren't searching for anything or too professional this is a good deal, it works with Serato.

Do you want an all in one -or- a more modular approach?
    2 decks, or 4 decks?
    Internal or external mixing?
Do you already have a sound interface?

All in one: NI S5 (four deck) or S2 (two deck)
    Modular:
Mixer: A&H Xone K2 (four deck) -OR- NI Z1 (two deck)
Transport: NI X1 (one or two).
    Denon X1600, NI X1 Mk1 & Mk2, MF Twister
    Kontrol S2, Maschine Mk1, APC 40
    Retired: VCI-100 Arcade (Signed #198/300))
    BFM 10x DR200 & 10x Titan 39

The S5 would be a great choice.

I would say an all in one, I don't really mind 4 decks. Is it a big downfall not having jog wheels on the S5. What do you think about the Pioneer DDJ SR?
    Thanks

It is not a downfall at all. The only hard part is open format mixing.

I have Jog wheels on an S2 Mk1, and touch strips on a pair of X1's (Mk1 and Mk2). I do not scratch. If it were not for the JogFX mapping, I would not use the jog wheels hardly at all anymore. Overall, I still prefer the jog wheels when cueing a new track, but only by a small margin....I can quite easily live without them.

The Pioneer unit is reasonable, and comes bundled with Serato. This is a 6 -v- half-dozen kind of choice for someone who is starting out.

I even find it more fun to load up scratch sounds in the remix decks on my s5 when I want to scratch.
