    Default LED PAR Question

I hope this is the right subforum...didn't see anything specific to lighting. I also tried a search (am I missing the quick link to the search function? Had to go to New Posts, then click on the Search button in that screen to get to advanced search) and didn't find anything....

I had a friend loan me some American DJ Mega TriPar Profiles for an event my daughter DJed this past weekend. I used it on the inside of the speaker scrims and everyone loved it. She is just starting out in the business and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for budget friendly LED PARs. I see the ones I borrowed on eBay used for about $70 and new ranging from $90 + on most sites. I have seen some cheaper units in the $20 range, but the DMX connection is on the back so they won't lay flat if you use DMX. I liked that the ADJ had the power and DMX on the edge of the fixture. I know we will be using single color or sound activated to start with until we have the capital for a DMX controller, but want to have the ability to use it when we get it. Seems like the $45 - 50 range is where the generics get the DMX inputs on the edges.

Anyone have any suggestions or experience with any of the off brand manufacturers? Trying to get equipment that will last the next several months to year while she starts getting gigs and recouping our current investments in equipment.

Got these. Love them. Best bang for buck IMO.

I had seen the package below and liked it because of the cables and case, but didn't want to fork out that much.... I see the multiple LEDs in the one you posted vs the 5 large areas on the one I had seen.... I have only tried the style with the 5. How much do they differ and how? Sorry...not trying to be such a newbie, but I gotta learn somehow....

The ones with just 5 LEDs (or 6, or 7, or 12, etc) are multicolour LEDs. The ones I posted each LED only makes one colour and that can result in some RGB shadows. Pretty negligible IMO. The multicolour LEDs each of the LEDs makes all the colors thus no RGB shadowing and are usually more expensive.

If you are just looking for a general wash, I'd go with Chauvet Slim Par 56 or 64. I think the 64 comes with uv for black light. They are super durable and reliable. I've installed hundreds and have barely had any bad fixtures.
