DJ-X - Dixie Cup (40 min mix set) opinions?

Hey guys,

here's my latest mix. i'm pretty proud of the track selection, i mixed lots of rock, electro, hip hop and pop, but i need your feedback on the technical skills! I know i still need practice so i need to know what i'm doing well and what i'm not doing so well

I was (positively) shocked that the set started with Bob Dylan.
I was equally shocked that it didn't break off into some massive Kick and bassline.
Usually when someone does something bold like that, it's turns out to be an amazing set.

I'm not out to be a bad critic here. But You've just put a bunch of songs after eachother with crossfades (at best) between them. I'm not sure how to give you anything constructive.

hey, i was fronting a rock band before being a DJ so my track selection is pretty wide all the time.

I understand what you mean. I'm a fan of the less is more approach, maybe because, as some people here know, i started off as a touring DJ who toured with some rappers and who's main task was to hit play/pause and trigger some samples once in a while.

But lets say you walk into a bar/lounge and this is playing... is it acceptable? or does it sound like crap? that's what's important to me.

I like the choice of music, it's a god set.
Dynamic and not to stale like usual people do it.

But there's a reason for keeping it stale, and that's technique.
It's a hard thing to actually mix these songs.
That's where the skill of a DJ takes comes into play.
And that's what's the difference between a playlist and a DJ mix set.

This is a 39 minute playlist
