Using Kaoss pad in Traktor

So my buddy has a Kaoss pad and wants to incorporate it into our live show. Before he just routed the sound from his computer INTO the pad and then out to the mixer and would just use the pad as normal. I was dicking around in Traktor and found effects SENDing. When turned on whatever effects bank it was selected on becomes, UNselectable in Traktor.

I was wondering 2 things. What is the send function for?

And is there anyway to really utilize the Kaoss pad outside of his current method with Traktor?
