Loop in & jog wheel moves loop start - what's the actual mapping happening?

Hey DJTT, have had my S4 for 4 days now and am loving it :) However, I can't figure out how to see a mapping assignment table that will tell me what midi notes/combinations trigger what actions. This is kinda my general question, does such a mapping assignment table exist?

The specific reason i want to know this is, I see that when you have a loop set and you press Loop in and move the jog wheel you can change the in point of the loop to fine tune it, what I want to figure out is if I can re-map this function to the loop length encoder to change the the loop in point by the corresponding loop length shown on the encoder at the time of action.

My thinking here is this;
8 beats before a breakdown or before a track kicks back in from a breakdown, set an 8 beat loop, trigger some effects as it loops then press loop in point and reduce length of the loop from the loop in point by 4/2/1/.5/.25 beats until you have the crowd whipped into a frenzy and then drop the track back in, instant mayhem :)

i know you can do stuff like this with the beatmasher/gater/delay etc but if the sound you want to effect is in the last couple of beats of the loop how can you achieve this?

Maybe something is staring me in the face and I have spent too long in front of it to see it, if so feel free to berate me!

The original mapping you're using is what we can call the embedded mapping, it's a defined set of features and controls. You can't see the mapping and you cant' change it (well, that isn't fully true but that's not important here in my answer).
Like any controller and considering all what you can do with Traktor, there's a matter of compromises: the embedded mapping offers a lot of possibilities but not all the possibilities. Then it's a matter of do you want to take advantage of what's natively offered OR, do you have more specific needs that are valuable enough for you to drop the embedded mapping and start to create a custom one.
A custom one can be done in two different ways: either you're still using the fast communication protocol and you create a "s4 user mapping" or you use the usual 'midi mode' (that can be used in conjunction with the embedded mapping as you have to 'switch' modes and eventually revert back).

That said, you can't recreate fully the embedded mapping with a custom one (and funnily enough there are new functions you can use with the custom one that weren't integrated in the native one), and you'll loose a lot of led feedback (loop length displays and the like).

I won't go into further details but I hope that helps a bit. To summary, your solution is either:
a/create a custom mapping
or
b/add an additional controller to cover your extra needs.

note: the release of TP2 may change all the above, so take my words with a pinch of salt.

Actually I may a additional advice you may want to have a look at: it is possible to modify the embedded mapping by either taking advantage of a few controls that weren't designed to have a function depending on the software/hardware state, or, there are some ways to block what's supposed to happen when you're using some controls by nullifying the functions (once again I don't go into the details).
The gain knobs are one of those, you can block the gain adjustments and replace the functions by something else, bearing in mind the gain knobs are actually encoders, the "clicky" type, those are perfect to be remapped for alternative loop controls.
If you're interested in how to block those, have a look at the Traktor's bible's web site, there' a bunch of really good suggestions.
For the mapping itself, well, it's another subject but that entirely feasible to reduce of divide a loop by its loop in point.

Well, you can go into controller manager and choose add, Traktor, Kontrol S4 and then User instead of Default. This allows you to map everything yourself. It's a long process and is pretty much the only way to Kontrol the S4 (ha cwutididthar) with your own mapping.

cheers guys but your advice doesn't really answer my question (not that I don't appreciate it), I am pretty happy with midi mapping, I just sold a VCI-100 (to fund the S4) which I modded to SE myself, upgraded the firmware and added a bunch of custom mappings for TPro and had TDJS3 before that.

What I want is to see an equivalent of the assigments you get if you create a user mapping for the S4. Specifically I want to know what function is being called when the jog wheel is moved with the "loop in" button depressed while in a loop. There is no user assignable function I can find that replicates this action so i am either missing something or it doesn't exist. if it doesn't exist I would ask DJTT community if anyone has a alternate and similar function/mapping and I will (have) posted it as a feature request on the NI S4 Forum.

Cue/Loop Move Size > xFine (button>hold on jog wheel I expect)
Cue/Loop Move Move> In or Out depending on which is held
Then the jog wheel is just set as an encoder on Cue/Loop Move
