Advice on Modular Synths
Hey everyone.
First, I'd like to thank anyone who is reading this and posting their feedback. All help is greatly appreciated.
So I've decided that I really want to learn how to make electronic music. I have FL studio but I've decided to buy a book on synthesizers and start my journey by making a rack of modular synths. I really want to know the ins and outs instead of relying on a computer program.
I've read up a bit on the different types of modular synths but I just don't know where to start. I like songs like Awooga by Calvin harris or anything by Sidney Samson, Afrojack, Deadmau5, Feed me etc..
Are there specific synths that can help me achieve these types of sounds? And if so which company should I stick to?
Thanks again

Modular synths eh? Get ready to spend a ridiculous amount of money to get something somewhat decent up and running, at least $3,000 US to get something you can somewhat work with.
Doepfer would be a good company to start with I'd say. They have all the stuff you need to get going and they have a good following so you should be able to find enough help online.
And the thing with Modular synths, in theory, is you can make them reproduce any sound you hear as long as you have the right modules. But more importantly you can make you're own original sounds and that's one of the allures of going modular. If you want to sound like any of those guys just do some research and find out what they are using.

Also, Buchla is another great company to check out when going modular. But one of the other great things about going modular is you can choose modules from different companies and have them work together, so mix and match!

Thanks man. I know its expensive but I'll save up. I'm going to research both companies and let you know who I decide to go with.

i know its about modular... but.. be shure to check out the vermona perfourmer aswell... not many people know about this analog quadsynth and there´s nothing to say agains using this as a soundsource for your further modular system. anyways theres aswell some versions with inbuilt gate and CV in and why not use this one in your system. the sound is amazing i highly recommend it.

LOVE Vermona, just the right amount of dirt in their synths and other analog gear
