S4 on Pioneer Mixer: Mid/High Freq too loud

I've done 2 gigs so far, at the same place. Both times i had to put the channel (with the S4) EQ on the mixer down for the mid and high frequencies because they were way too loud.

For it all to sound right i set the EQ like so:
High -40%
Mid - 20%
Low - 0%

Any ideas on what is causing this oversteering sound in the higher frequencies?

Because there's no room for other gear i have to close the casing that is holding the CDJ's and mixer. Afterwards i place my laptop and controller on the closed case. So it's a real hassle tweaking the EQ after i've set up and started my set, as you can imagine :)

I have zero experience with these mixers. Is there some 'direct' or 'trough' switch that i can flip? Or is something else causing this?

I worried about this situation and ended up mixing using CD's... what model is the mixer... if its an 800 I suspect its that that is colouring the sound.

I'd say that it looks like an 800 yeah. But then again, they all look alike ;)

But why would it be colouring the sound? What does direct output from a CDJ sound like? Is it that much different from the output from an S4?

If i'd be able to just use the S4, hook it up the amp and skip the entire mixer, is that something that would be recommended?

The only reason that the mixer is connected on my watch is so that the lightning gets an audiosignal. The S4 only has one output, but an extra output is something i'd might be able to create with an Aggregate Device in OSX. Using another soundcard for the lightning.

This is potentially more unstable i think though.

if it was a djm800, you may want to check if the color efx were turned on (on/off buttons left side and the control knobs are below the bass on ea channel)

I have to do the same with house mixers, the sound is generaly to sharp when i use the s4. but you just need to adjust the top and mid and you will be fine:)

How big is the room/sound system.

I played in this place where I'm from and the DJM-800 will cut your ears in two. Its like the system is too big for the room and you had to keep the highs and mids at like 10-11 o'clock.

You should see if its just your S4 or the mixer in general.

You should set the master gain in traktor to around -10.0Db and then put the volume knob on the s4 at like 1 to 2 oclock and adjust the rest with the djm.

Then cut the highs and mids back as necessary, hopefully it isn't too much.

Sound starts bouncing off walls and shit goes crazy.
