hi guys, a quick question, i want a pair of turntables, and have been offered some as a straight swap for an old denon separates cd player and amp that i have lying around, the are numark tt500's with ortofon concorde needles, obviously id love a pair of technics but funds dont stretch that far at the moment. has anyone used these and are they any good to start out with? ill be honest and say that all i know is that i need direct drive, which i see that these are.

Honestly if those are in your price range, they should be decent to start with at least. Numark makes some good turntables, and some bad ones. I'm pretty sure the TT500's are pretty decent as things go though.
I have a buddy who swears by Numark (I don't honestly know why, but they've treated him well). If you aren't using your other equipment, and think it's a fair deal. Go for it.
That being said, together the turntables are probably worth 200...300 if you push it and they are in pristine condition. So figure out if your gear is worth more than that, so you don't get boned.
TT-500's are the non-digital version of Numarks flagship X-1's. They are just as good, but without the digital bells and whistles, which you wouldn't get on Technics anyway! Although they aren't "the industry standard", they're still good TT's with three different pitch ranges, three different playing speeds, pitch reset and up to 4.5kgf.cm of torque, which is plenty. Unless you plan on spinning the world backwards!
cheers guys, looks like ill go for it, they are right within my budget seeing as theyre free and i havent used the other gear for about a year :D and the digital bits dont really matter to me at all, so erm... yeah cheers for the advice, ill pick them up tonight, gonna have to fish out the control vinyl now and start building a collection :D
As mentioned above, the TT500 are decent turntables. Just make sure that it doesn't over heat. If it does, there's a way to cure that problem by drilling holes under the chassis to provide ventilation. :)
