Preface: New to recording sets externally...
I'm mixing out of traktor from an audio 8 dj, to the mixer, then back from the mixer into fasttrack pro to an ableton track. When you guys record do you throw a limiter on while recording or leave it untouched while recording then apply the limiter later? I'm not clipping externally at all but I'm trying to see what sounds best... advice?
Use a properly set compressor on post production, avoid limiters.

You have to be REALLY careful when recording DJ mixes. You don't really need to do anything to 'em. Just hit record.
Adding any compression/limiting etc, can ruin your mixes. You'll find the compression sounds fine when a track is playing alone, but as the volume goes up during transitions, the compressor will kick in and become obvious...
Like I said - just hit record.
