How to turn a Vocal clip into a bass sound?????

Been hearing this a lot lately people sampling vocals and turning them into super low / dynamic bass sounds and I am wondering how i would go about doing this myself??

use an effect that will generate a complimentary bassline, something like NI's the Mouth

or perhaps try audio->midi using Ableton 9 or melodyne and then transpose a couple of octaves and run the midi with whatever bass instrument you like...

Its clearly vocoded with another bassy synth. you can hear the scratchyness of the vocoder

iLL Gates has some tutorials somewhere re: bass and vocal samples.

I can't find 'em now - but if you need any help with glitchy bass sounds iLL Gates is your man.
