Customers want sync, they just don't know it.

The entire debate is "I don't need it; no real DJ does" against "it helps me be more creative", which are both complete BS IMHO.

I like the "it's easier" argument in favor of sync, but then.....I can still mix without it, so I'm not sure which side I really fall on.

Sometimes, it's fun to go back in time and just hold 2 tracks together. Sometimes it's fun to mix with 4 decks, loop, samples, and all of the other junk that keeps us busy.

And when it really comes down to it, the best sets (for listeners) are when you can't really tell what's happening and you don't care....the music is just good.

Why can't we all just get along and stop arguing about tools?

I'm new here. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I need a bigger table so I can put my 1200s outside of my X1s and the rotary I'm buying soon....then I can beatmatch AND sync, and both sides can suck it.

Yeah, well except if you took 15 djs, had them play their set without, then with, the later would sound better to the average listener. This is where somebody comes in and says Carl Cox or one of the other 5 names they know.

And they are completely dishonest as well because they can't admit that they too would benefit from it, each and every set of their lives. Their argument really comes down to "I like ugly girls."

There are plenty of people who sound exactly the same whether they're syncing or not.

The vast majority of DJs would not benefit from the extra time, and a nontrivial subset of them can beatmatch flawlessly.

I've done everything, and I keep going back and forth on which is more fun (since that's all that matters to me).

If I had to pick the two best sets I've ever been to, I know which ones they'd be. One was all vinyl (no DVS) and the other was split between cdjs (no dvs/hid) and X1s (sync).

It really is a "how you want to do it" kind of problem.

I'm just talking over the course of a night. If I was a club owner, I would want anybody with a laptop to use sync, and just call it a quality control issue. It's like a seat-belt. I remember when they started making seat-belt laws and I hated the damn things. Felt like making somebody who had never worn a necktie put one on.

I mean it's really messed up if we think about it. Other than these people who live in fantasy land, we all understand the quality of the mixes over the course of a night is not the same. We accept that the early birds will not get the same quality. Imagine that in a restaurant, guests who come before 8 will have less tasty food a little undercooked. In a restaurant the chef makes the final check of the food going out.

Ideally the future of sync will have a governor mode and only kick in when your mix is off. Imagine a computer giving you a score on your beat matching after your performance.

That sounds like a nightmare.

I'm pro-sync, and your argument is making me want to go back to buying vinyl.

This all goes back to the owner/promoter not hiring people that can do it properly, whether it's cooking or playing music. If you want to put sub par people behind the stove/decks, that's on you. Demanding someone use sync just because they are a laptop DJ is nuts. I am a laptop DJ. I have 20 years of playing vinyl and CDs under my belt. Are my mixes perfect with sync? nope. Were they perfect with CDJs and vinyl? nope. My record selection has, and always will, set me apart from joe schmoe. You shouldn't put people that aren't ready for it out there.

Thats not my experience at all. In my experience the argument starts when someone new says that beatmatching is old fashioned and pointless, not when someone old school is bashing sync. Some DJs that use sync seem to be incredibly touchy about it and their need to justify it.

If someone boasts about not using sync, where is the problem? Why does that make someone else insecure?
